There has been a lot of interest in the research studies being done as background for this project.  Many of you had the chance to see presentations and ask questions to the consultants at the November Community Forum.

Now, several of the reports for these concurrent research studies are available via this website:

Cultural Resources Inventory:  This report reviews the early history of the project area and the potential historical/cultural “themes” that should be considered as part of the study process. [File is very large - 12 MB]

Freight Rail Operations in the Corridor:  This report examines current and future rail operations in the corridor.  [File is large - 5 MB]

Minnehaha-Hiawatha Corridor Market Analysis: This report looks at retail and market conditions within the corridor and its retail trade areas. [File is large - 6 MB]

Also, a link to all previous research, planning, and studies done in the corridor can be found under Links to Past Studies.

* If you are having trouble accessing these files, please contact Robb Luckow at the link on the left.

Please bring your friends and neighbors and join the Community Advisory Committee on Wednesday evening, November 12, at Sanford Middle School.

Reinvestment is happening along the Minnehaha-Hiawatha corridor – the question is:  what will it look like and what role do residents and businesses have in the process?

Come learn about and provide input on a major Hennepin County Community Works Initiative for the entire area from Hiawatha Avenue to Minnehaha Avenue and from the Midtown Greenway to Minnehaha Parkway.

Come anytime between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. and visit stations addressing topics such as transportation and traffic, community image, safety, economic development, green space and parks, housing, commercial revitalization, and MORE!  There will be refreshments and fun activities for all ages!

Short presentations on recent corridor studies will be offered twice during the evening:

Railroad Study: 5:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m.
Cultural Resources Study: 6:00 p.m., 7:30 p.m.
Market Retail Study: 6:30 p.m., 8:00 p.m.

Wednesday, November 12th
5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Sanford Middle School (3524 42nd Ave S)

For more information contact Robb Luckow at Hennepin County, robb.luckow@co.hennepin.mn.us or 612-348-9344.

**  This community forum has been promoted through the Longfellow Community Council listserve; an email to 200 on the project email list; a mailing to all corridor homes, apartments, and businesses; flyers distributed throughout the neighborhood and on doors; the Standish-Ericsson E-Democracy Issues forum; the Longfellow Community Council monthly e-news; and the Longfellow Messenger.

Thanks to members of Bethany Lutheran Church’s Adult Forum members for offering their ideas and input into the future of the corridor. They had some new ideas, especially around helping travelers and people from outside the area find out about historic sites, parks, and all the great things to do in these neighborhoods. Click Bethany Lutheran Adult Forum to find out what they had to say.
