Please bring your friends and neighbors and join the Community Advisory Committee on Wednesday evening, November 12, at Sanford Middle School.

Reinvestment is happening along the Minnehaha-Hiawatha corridor – the question is:  what will it look like and what role do residents and businesses have in the process?

Come learn about and provide input on a major Hennepin County Community Works Initiative for the entire area from Hiawatha Avenue to Minnehaha Avenue and from the Midtown Greenway to Minnehaha Parkway.

Come anytime between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. and visit stations addressing topics such as transportation and traffic, community image, safety, economic development, green space and parks, housing, commercial revitalization, and MORE!  There will be refreshments and fun activities for all ages!

Short presentations on recent corridor studies will be offered twice during the evening:

Railroad Study: 5:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m.
Cultural Resources Study: 6:00 p.m., 7:30 p.m.
Market Retail Study: 6:30 p.m., 8:00 p.m.

Wednesday, November 12th
5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Sanford Middle School (3524 42nd Ave S)

For more information contact Robb Luckow at Hennepin County, robb.luckow@co.hennepin.mn.us or 612-348-9344.

**  This community forum has been promoted through the Longfellow Community Council listserve; an email to 200 on the project email list; a mailing to all corridor homes, apartments, and businesses; flyers distributed throughout the neighborhood and on doors; the Standish-Ericsson E-Democracy Issues forum; the Longfellow Community Council monthly e-news; and the Longfellow Messenger.

Thanks to members of Bethany Lutheran Church’s Adult Forum members for offering their ideas and input into the future of the corridor. They had some new ideas, especially around helping travelers and people from outside the area find out about historic sites, parks, and all the great things to do in these neighborhoods. Click Bethany Lutheran Adult Forum to find out what they had to say.

Community Ideas from National Night Out

The Community Advisory Committee and project team used National Night Out to provide information about this project to thousands of area residents and to gather input from those who wanted to offer ideas. Working in partnership with the Minneapolis Police Department, Block Club leaders throughout the project area received an initial request to help, and then in early August received instructions, copies of a handout with project information and a short survey, and preprinted envelopes. They handed out the information to their neighbors at the National Night Out celebrations and in the 13 neighborhoods where people completed the surveys, Block Club leaders collected them and mailed them back to the project team in the postage-paid envelopes. Below is what people had to say in response to the survey question: What kinds of improvements do you think would create a more vibrant community and increase your quality of life?

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the table at the Longfellow Park Corn Feed on 7 August. We had lots of visitors who offered excellent ideas, and thanks to Community Advisory Committee members, County and project staff, our partners from Latinos En Acción who gathered input en Español, and the park staff who where exceptionally helpful to everyone.

There will be many more opportunities for input, but if you’re impatient, go to What do YOU think?
¿Qué piensa usted?
on the right and complete the survey.

See detailed input here, and see below for a quick look at participants on this perfect summer evening.
